I have A Voice: Tennessee's African American Musical Heritage Exhibit 

The Robertson County History Museum will be hosting a wonderful new exhibit and on loan from the Tennessee State Museum entitled I Have A Voice: Tennessee's African American Musical Heritage Exhibit. The exhibit will open on Wednesday, May 9 and run through July 11. The exhibit will focus on the impact Tennessee's African-American music had on popular music in America and the world. From early blues icons such as Bessie Smith and W. C. Handy who influenced the folks at STAX Records who gave us Otis Redding, the Bar-Kays, and Albert King and others. Visitors to the museum will be able to stream performance recordings on their smart phones and to see original artifacts. 
 
On May 10 - May 12 the exhibit will be open to the public from 12 pm - 4 pm. Then on May 16 - 18  the exhibit will be open to the public from 12 pm - 4 pm.The shortened hours at the museum are due to the morning Fourth Grade Tours from Robertson County Elementary Schools. On May 22 the exhibit will be available to the public during normal hours for the museum which are 10 am  - 4 pm Wednesday - Friday throughout the run of the exhibit. Support the Town of Coopertown in our annual outdoor fundraiser known for its 5000 in attendance and hundreds of vendor booths! From arts & crafts, live music and history, barrel building demonstrations by Guest Cooper John from Speyside Cooperage and other activities for adults and kids of all ages, to the Barrel Fest 5 Miler kickoff at 7am, regular cake walks throughout the day, our Antique Car & Truck Show and Cooper (woodworking) Contest--all with prizes....it's worth the stop halfway between Nashville and Clarksville, Tennessee!

AN EVENING AT ELMWOOD CEMETERY ~ June 2, 2018 ~ 6:00 pm Come experience wonderful re-enactment of former Robertson County individuals who played an important part in shaping the county's history. Enjoy a box dinner, then stroll through the past from the standpoint of 5 different characterizations. Tickets available at the historical museum located on the Springfield square or at the event; $15 includes your supper & tour; information, 615/382.7173. In the event of inclement weather, we will be at the Senior Citizen Center across from the museum.
